Collaborative co-working at the MSP Tech Incubator, Oxford House

With our WorkLife showroom based in Manchester, it’s fantastic to be able to watch the city we call home evolve and grow. One of the sectors which is seeing some of the most substantial growth at the moment is the tech & science industry and as part of this development, Manchester Science Partnerships has recently launched its new Tech Incubator.

The Tech Incubator provides start-up businesses within the data, science and tech industries with the perfect platform off which to launch their journeys through offering state-of-the-art co-working spaces, meeting rooms, presentation facilities and private offices.

We were delighted to be chosen to supply and install the furniture for the new co-work space on Oxford Road and excited to work with an innovative interior design brief from the team at Space Invaders when selecting the perfect products for the job.

“Furniture can often be an after thought; for us we know it makes the space. It is one of those items where form and function have to come together, so that it not only adds to the look of the space but practically makes it a comfy and brilliant place to work in. Penketh Group are experts at this and it’s been a pleasure working with them on Mi-IDEA and the Tech Incubator.”

Tom Renn, Managing Director Manchester Science Partnerships

The Tech Incubator provides a variety of dedicated co-working spaces which start-ups can use either on an ad hoc or contractual basis. The workspace design incorporates a range of different work settings to cater for various work modes including collaboration, meeting spaces, private offices, presentation space, social and breakout areas, welcome area and working lounge.

Our role was to provide furniture products to meet the original design brief, which would align with a strict budget guideline. We were required to work closely with the interior design team to offer improvements and added value in terms of furniture products in order to maximise the use of the space and help the client achieve their objectives.

As part of the refurbishment of the space, the client wanted to create a workspace that looked more high-tech and contemporary so we installed an array of products which accommodate modern, agile working – from meetings rooms with integrated technology to clusters of soft seating for casual collaboration and periods of rejuvenation.

We also created a number of bespoke Axium storage units for organisation and space division which were chosen after the client had viewed them in our own showroom.

Some other products we chose for the space were:

  • The Coalesse Free Stand portable table for adaptable working and impromptu meetings
  • Naughtone Always Lounge Chair for a cool, contemporary look
  • Orangebox Eva Task Chair for an ergonomic seating solution with a minimal aesthetic
