Hiking boots – check, warm clothing – check, selfie sticks at the ready! We were more than ready to take on Mount Snowdon for the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS), or so we thought! Last month, 13 of our staff and 3 NYAS employees headed out to complete the challenge, arriving early to get ahead of the crowds, however the walk was more challenging than we had imagined.
Despite feeling like it may be an impossible challenge just after half an hour! With a lot of enthusiasm, great team morale and the weather on our side, we took 3hrs to get up to the summit and the views from the top made it all worthwhile!
Along the way the we met some impressive people – a father and his 4yr old and a group who had come up with the great idea of carrying their bikes to the top to then bike down – maybe an idea we could borrow for next year!
NYAS has helped thousands of deprived and abused children and young people in the UK. The charity helps them to lead lives which are safe, happy and fulfilling and they do this by delivering support services including befriending, advocacy, advice and representation.
We are proud to have raised £1,510.00 from our walk up Snowdon.
In the months ahead, we have lots more exciting fundraising events planned to raise money for local charities that we provide ongoing support to, including Stick ‘n’ Step, which works to support children suffering from cerebral palsy and their families across the North West and North Wales.
On 12th June, we’ll be taking part in the Wirral Coastal Walk to raise funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice, and later in the year we’ll be holding a range of events throughout the year.
Throughout the year, we also have a ‘Casual Clothes Day’ where staff each donates a £1 to wear casual dress to work each month. We also have our annual events towards the end of the year, our annual Penketh Group ‘Bake Off’ Competition, a yummy bake sale and much-loved Christmas Jumper Day and a few raffles throughout the year.
We also continue to raise money for our chosen charities through our cartridge recycling service, which sees us collect empty printer toner cartridges from office buildings and recycling them. Interested in signing up? Simply ask us for one of our cardboard toner collection bins, then we’ll collect any empty cartridges when we deliver your next order.
We love to support deserving, local charities at Penketh Group. Last year, we raised £8000 for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, which went directly towards a new specialist cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool.
