40 Years of supporting charities

Company News /

As a family-run business, we love to get involved in local charity work and each year we select a different charity to pledge our support.

Over the years, we are proud to have raised more than £50,000 for local charities which has helped them with everything from vital support services to helping to fund pioneering research.

Here is our round-up of just some of the charities we have supported over the past four decades:

  • Hearing dogs for Deaf People
  • Claire House
  • St Johns Hospice
  • Radio City Mission Christmas
  • Hospice of the Good Shepard
  • The Stroke Association
  • Children in Need
  • Age UK
  • Clatterbridge Cancer Charity
  • Motor Neurone Research
  • Macmillan
  • R.N.L.I.
  • N.S.P.C.C.
  • Stick n’ Step

We initially set up Penketh’s Employee Charity Society (PECS) with the help of Dot Daniels, Anne Parry and Diane Shepherd and our first charitable deed was for Guide Dogs for the Blind. We raised £1,000 for a guide dog named Penny.

Dot, Anne and Diane were brilliant at rounding up staff to help them take part in charity events, which included walking The Wirral Way, bowling and Anne’s famous staff tuck box.

Over the years, we have raised money from organising ‘Bric-a-Brac’ stalls, sponsored swims, raffles, car boot sales, sponsored walks, abseils, half-marathons and ‘Wear a Wig To Work’ days.

Today, our charity work is still going strong and we feel privileged to have been able to support so many charities over the years and continue to do so.

This year, we are fundraising for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and have set ourselves a target of £8,000, which will help fund pioneering research, new treatments and vital support services that may otherwise be unavailable.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is the only charity that directly raises funds to benefit Clatterbridge Cancer patients across the region. Operating from ten sites across Merseyside and Cheshire, the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity makes almost 221,000 patient contacts to over 30,000 patients each year, offering pioneering chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It remains the UK’s only provider of proton therapy treatment.  Visit our Just Giving page here.
